Be sure you understand the tide patterns before you take off for the day!

Do your research.

Do your research and be sure you understand the tides.

Ask yourself important questions like:

  • If the tide goes out, will I be able to pull the boat back into the water?
  • If the tide comes in, will my boat float away?

Be sure to check the boat every hour or so to ensure it’s not burrowing into the sand.

Choose your beach.

The next step in beaching your boat is finding the perfect spot.

Look for a sheltered cove with a sandy beach, where the water is shallow enough to anchor safely without your boat getting grounded. Avoid areas with rocky bottoms, steep drop-offs, or strong currents, and always be cautious of other boats or swimmers nearby.

Approach the beach slowly.

Once you have found the perfect spot, slowly approach the beach at a low speed, and try to come in at a slight angle if possible.

This technique will enable you to land gently on the beach, minimize any disturbance to the shoreline, and reduce the risk of damaging your boat on the beach.

Anchor your boat.

After you have made contact with the beach, it’s time to anchor your boat safely.

Ideally, you should anchor from the stern or the bow, depending on the wind and current directions. Use a long rope to tie the boat to a stable object on the beach, such as a tree or a rock, to prevent it from drifting away.

Secure your boat.

Once your boat is anchored, it’s time to secure it to the beach to prevent any damage to the hull.

Use a dock line or a tow rope to tie off the boat to a sturdy anchor on land, such as a tree trunk or a metal stake. Ensure the anchor is secure and won’t move due to the waves or currents, and make sure the rope is taut so that the boat can’t drift away from the shore.

Unbeach your boat.

When it’s time to leave the beach, be sure to take your time to avoid damaging your boat or the beach.

Start the engine and gently reverse your boat until you are floating in deeper water. Ensure the anchor is lifted and stowed securely before accelerating away from the beach.

Beaching a boat safely and successfully requires careful planning, a good understanding of the environment, and the right equipment. These steps will ensure that your beaching experience is stress-free, enjoyable, and damage-free.

Always be aware of your surroundings, other boats, swimmers, and wildlife, and follow local regulations regarding beaching your boat.
